Bananas go Mexican!

We all know there are waaaaay too many amazing Mexican places in downtown Toronto but for some of us who live in the GTA, the trip down there can kinda suck. Well I didn't really get into Mexican cuisine until recently years and out of the handful of places that we've had the time to check out, Mexican Amigos has become a frequent favourite of mine. I was first introduced to the place by a colleague, went there again the next weekend with a friend, and then the weekend after that with my family.

I am obviously not Mexican so I don't know what true Latin Americans would say about the place but to the foreigners' palette, damn. The menu has changed a bit since the first time I went and I gotta say that's the only disappointment really. Their options have narrowed down a bit from what I was used to but honestly, the quality of the food hasn't gone down.

In terms of price range, I'd say most things ranged from $15 - $20 CAD and it's a lot of food. Seriously, check out this monster burrito:

I guess don't have a banana for scale but I assure you, it's big. I mean, the burrito is great but what stood out for me - and it might be a bit odd - was the salad dressing. It's this fruity light vinaigrette and it complements so well with such a HEAVY main course.

I was stuffed, almost as much as this ridiculous burrito but obviously that didn't stop me from dessert. I always have room for dessert and I regret it after almost 90% of the time.

This is their Tres Leche cake. Which is a very common Mexican recipe I discovered (while google-ing it trying to remember how to spell it). I believe it's three different kinds of sweet milk and cream SOAKED into this cake and f**k it was so sweet, I almost thought I'd get diabetes right then and there. I loved it don't get me wrong but I don't think I would be having another one again any time soon.
